23 January 2016

New Zealand have taken an unassailable lead in the Trans Tasman young rider clash at the Larsen Sawmilling Showjumping Championships in Gisborne.

The team – Melody Matheson (Hastings), Olivia Robertson (Christchurch), Emily Fraser (Feilding) and Sam Morrison (Tauranga) – nabbed another bonus point for three clears in the first round of the second day of competition. The Australian team – Jock Rice-Ward, Georgie Siciliano, Jamie Priestly and Sam Buchanan – couldn’t match them in either round and finished on 12 faults for the day. New Zealand picked up eight faults in the second round.

The Kiwis now sit on 13 points from the two days of competition, with Australia on seven.

The test continues tomorrow.
