Photo competition closing soon

WANTED … photographic images depicting some of the Eastern Bay’s most iconic rural spots.

The photo competition for an upcoming book celebrating the beauty of the Eastern Bay closes on Sunday and the book’s co-authors are calling for more entries from Matata, Kawerau, Taneatua, Ruatoki, Waimana, Nukuhou, Matahi, Opotiki and the surrounding rural areas.

Andrea Cooper and Nikki Slade Robinson say there has been a great response to the competition so far, and to the book, which will showcase all that is great about the region.

“Some fabulous photos have been sent in already,” Cooper said.

“We’ve had such an enthusiastic response to both the competition and the actual book concept.  It’s great.”

The co-authors are keen to see more photos from outside of Whakatane, like this entry from 13-year-old Melissa Horwood of Taketakerau, the Burial Tree (also known as the Millenium Tree) in Hukutaia Domain at Opotiki.

Anyone with stunning photos showing an iconic view of the area is invited to email a low-resolution (under 500kB) image to art.of.andreas@xtra.co.nz or post it to the Facebook page Eastern Bay of Plenty: The Book.

Cooper said this was an opportunity for people to see their work in print. Any images that are used within the book will have the photographer’s name credited alongside.

First prize in the competition is $100 and second prize is a framed print of the entered image. All photos appearing in the book will go into the draw for a signed first-edition copy.
