The council discussed the funding from Transpower and the Lottery Grants Board during a full council meeting on Tuesday.

The board paid $200,000 and the remainder was courtesy of Transpower’s community care fund.

Last year the council agreed to spend more than $590,000 to build the new changing block and $50,000 to convert the existing block into a new clubroom.

Construction was delayed while staff awaited a report on the site’s building requirements as it was vulnerable to geothermal activity.
